Shravani Tonge, 15, a student from a municipal school in Pune district has become the first in the state to earn a full scholarship at the prestigious Robert Bosch College in Germany, part of the United World Colleges (UWC) network.

Tonge is a Class 10 graduate from Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj English Medium School in Kasarwadi, run by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in partnership with The Akshara Foundation. Her selection reaffirms the quality and supportive environment of municipal schools.

“My school gave me more than just an education, it gave me the inspiration to dream and the courage to achieve. This opportunity to study at UWC will change my life, and I dedicate my success to my teachers, my family, and the PCMC education department,” said the Kasarwadi resident, who scored an impressive 93 per cent in her board exams.

Her father Deepak, who teaches at a private school, said, “We chose this municipal school because it is run jointly by The Akshara Foundation and PCMC. It is a well-designed, child-centric school with a strong focus on learning. The teachers are supportive and truly care about the students’ growth.”

Her mother Manisha, a homemaker, added, “Shravani has been ambitious since childhood. She wants to study engineering, especially Artificial Intelligence, but she also wants to return to India after her studies.”

Starting August 28, Shravani will join the German institute’s new academic year on a full scholarship. Over the next two years, she will study science, mathematics, and economics in depth, along with UWC’s emphasis on global citizenship and leadership.

PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh said, “Shravani has proved that municipal students can compete and shine on the world stage. Our education system prioritises quality, opportunity, and inclusion, and her success will inspire thousands more.”
