The officials said that the ceiling plaster of a house in a four-storey building collapsed early on Tuesday in Maharashtra's Thane city which has been witnessing heavy rains since the last couple of days, reported news agency PTI.
No person was injured in the incident which was reported at 3.20 am in the house located on the first floor of the nearly 30-year-old Hina Lakshmi Society in Naupada area, Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said, reported PTI.
A portion of the ceiling plaster in a bedroom of the house collapsed, he said.
Two men and a woman who resided in the flat were in the hall at the time of the incident and were not injured, the official said.
The disaster management personnel and civic staff rushed to the site after being alerted, he said.
Given the structural risk, the bedroom has been sealed for safety, the official said.
The building is around 30 years' old, comprising 24 flats with nearly 70 to 80 residents. The last repair works were carried out eight-nine years back, Tadvi said, reported PTI.
Youth swept away in Gadchiroli; 2 national highways shut
Meanwhile, a man was missing after being swept away in an overflowing stream following heavy rains in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district, officials said on Tuesday, reported PTI.
Two national highways, a state highway and five other roads passing through the district were closed due to flooding, they said.
The weather department has issued an 'orange' alert for Gadchiroli and a 'yellow' alert for parts of Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Buldhana and Washim districts in the Vidarbha region for Tuesday and Wednesday, reported PTI.
A 19-year-old man from Kodpe village in Bhamragadh taluka was swept away while crossing an overflowing stream on Monday. Search operation was on for the missing person, a district administration official said.
Eight roads, including two national highways and one state highway, were closed in Gadchiroli due to inundation, according to the district disaster management office.
The Regional Meteorological Centre here said light to moderate rainfall was likely at isolated places over Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Bhandara, Nagpur, Gondia, Amravati and Akola districts on Tuesday, reported PTI.
Light spells of rain were also likely at isolated places over Yavatmal, Washim and Buldhana districts, it added.
