A protection wall collapsed in Mumbai's Chembur area amid heavy rains in the city, damaging multiple shanties, civic officials said.
There were no reports of injuries in the incident, they said.
The incident took place at the New Ashok Nagar locality of Chembur in eastern suburbs of Mumbai on Sunday.
Following the incident, the civic officials rushed to the spot and rescued the families affected with the incident.
"Mumbai Public School buildings have housed displaced families after a wall collapsed in Chembur’s Vasi Naka on Sunday evening,” said an official.
He said that two families, with four members each, have been rescued and given shelter in Mumbai Public School, Maravli, after the wall collapse in Chembur, while an another family has moved in with their relatives.
The two families have been given beds in a single classroom, while food packages are being arranged for them. Rescue teams are currently clearing the debris while helping the families salvage their belongings, the official said.
A protection wall had been constructed around a slum in the area. It is suspected that the wall collapsed due to incessant rainfall, damaging multiple huts.
"The teams were clearing the debris from the spot," the official added.
Mumbai and its adjoining areas continued to witness heavy rains on Monday.
