A 32-year-old cabin crew member of <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/indigo-booking-services-down-airline-reports-issues-with-core-reservation-platform-23645589" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">IndiGo Airlines</a> died of serious head injuries after the cab she was travelling in crashed into a ledge of a bridge in suburban Borivali, police said on Monday.
The victim, Kainoor Mistry, a resident of Mira Road, was returning home from work when the accident occurred in the early hours of Friday, an official said.
The driver, Vijay Khose (25), lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the concrete ledge of the bridge on the Western Express Highway, he said.
Following Mistry's death on Saturday evening, police invoked section 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Khose and issued him a notice to appear for investigation, the official said.
Khose escaped unhurt in the crash, and he transported Mistry to a hospital in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/escalator-shifted-from-mira-rd-to-mahim-stn-23295810" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Mira Road</a> with the help of bystanders, he said, adding that the airline had hired the cab through a private agency to transport the cabin crew.
The driver was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident and did not flee the scene. Further investigation into the matter is underway, the official said. Mistry is survived by her eight-year-old son.
