Janmashtami 2025: One dead, 75 Govindas injured; two critical during celebrations in Mumbai

According to the BMC, a total of 75 Govindas were reported injured during Dahi Handi celebrations across Mumbai as per data received from various government and BMC hospitals up to 6 pm

A 32-year-old Govinda died and 75 were reported to be injured with two being in critical condition during Dahi Handi celebrations in Mumbai, the BMC said on Saturday evening.

The deceased was indeitified as Jagmohan Shivkiran Chaudhari, a member of the Bal Govinda Pathak, reportedly fell while tying the Dahi Handi rope at Maharashtra Nagar in Mankhurd. He was immediately rushed to Shatabdi Hospital in Govandi, where doctors declared him brought dead, officials said.

"While tying the Dahi Handi rope, he fell down and was sent to Shatabdi Govandi Hospital where he was declared dead," said an official.
