The officials on Tuesday said that a 21-year-old man drowned after venturing for a swim in a lake in Maharashtra's Thane city, reported news agency PTI.
The incident took place on Monday evening at the Pakhanda lake in Ovala area, Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said, reported PTI.
The victim, Tejas Dudhavade, hailing from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, had come to visit a person in Ovala area, reported PTI.
He went for a swim in the lake and drowned, the official said.
The police rushed to the spot after being alerted.
The man was pulled out of the water with the help of locals and rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead, the official said, reported PTI.
The Kasarwadavali police registered a case of accidental death and were conducting a probe into it.
12-year-old boy drowns in Thane lake
In another incident, a 12-year-old boy drowned while swimming in a lake in Maharashtra's Thane city on Monday afternoon, a civic official said, reported PTI.
The incident occurred in the Kasarvadavali area and was reported around 12.30 pm, he said.
"Piyush Gajanan Sonawane, a resident of Waghbil, had ventured into the lake for a swim, but suddenly started drowning," said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the civic disaster management cell, reported PTI.
The child was pulled out of the water by personnel from the disaster management cell, TDRF, and the fire brigade, he said.
The official said the boy was rushed to the government hospital, where doctors declared him dead, reported PTI.
The police have registered the case of accidental death and are conducting further procedures.
Three persons drown in 2 incidents in MP's Satna
Meanwhile, three persons have drowned in two separate incidents in a pond and a river in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district, police said on Monday, reported PTI.
A man along with his nephew and another relative on Sunday went to take bath in Aghmarshan Kund, a pond located adjacent to the famous Dharkundi ashram.
All the three started drowning in the pond which was filled to the brim due to rain, Dharkundi police station in-charge Shailendra Patel said, reported PTI.
Some people present at the spot tried to rescue the three persons, but could not save Aman Tripathi (24) and his nephew Ajay Pandey (18), the official said, reported PTI.
Another relative of the victim was rescued with the help of local people and his condition was stable.
The bodies were later sent for post-mortem and a case was registered, the official said.
In another incident, a 36-year-old man drowned in a local river in Singhpur area after he lost balance and fell into it while immersing 'kajaliyan' (long grass), another official said.
