Thane traffic police bans heavy vehicles on Ghodbunder Road for repairs from August 8, check details here

To ensure smooth traffic flow and public convenience, heavy vehicles currently using the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway will be diverted to alternative routes, an official notification said

The Thane traffic police in Maharashtra on Wednesday announced a temporary ban on heavy vehicles on Ghodbunder Road, specifically at the Gaimukh Ghat section for urgent repair works from August 8 to 10, an official notification said.

The notification said that the Kashimira Traffic Department, Zone-1, has informed that road improvement work is planned on the Thane-Ghodbunder Highway (State Highway No. 84), specifically at the Gaimukh Ghat section. The work involves strengthening and resurfacing the road. The work will be carried out by Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation from 8th August 2025 to 10th August 2025.


It said that it is necessary to restrict the movement of heavy and oversized vehicles to prevent traffic congestion in the Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar areas. To ensure smooth traffic flow and public convenience, heavy vehicles currently using the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway will be diverted to alternative routes.



The notification also mentions the details of the traffic diversions, it said-

- Ghodbunder-Thane Route:

- Vehicles coming from Palghar-Virar side via National Highway 48 to reach Versova will be blocked from entering at Shirsat Phata.

Alternative Route: Shirsat Phata-Parol-Akoli (Ganeshpuri) - Ambadi.

- Vehicles coming from Palghar–Vasai side via NH 48 to reach Versova will be blocked at Chinchoti Naka.

Alternative Route: Chinchoti - Kaman - Kharbav - Anjurphata - Bhiwandi.

- Vehicles from Mumbai and Kashimira via Western Express Highway heading to Thane/Ghodbunder will also be blocked.

Alternative Route: Versova Bridge - straight to Gujarat NH- Shirsat Phata - Parol - Akoli (Ganeshpuri) - Ambadi or Chinchoti -  Kaman - Kharbav - Anjurphata - Bhiwandi.

Thane–Ghodbandar Route:

- All heavy vehicles from Mumbai/Thane towards Ghodbunder Road will be blocked at V junction and Kapurbavdi junction.

Alternative Route: Via V junction - Nashik Road - Kharegaon Toll - Mankoli - Anjurphata.

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) Route:

- Heavy vehicles from Ahmedabad heading to Thane/Navi Mumbai via Ghodbunder Road (Kajupada, Gaymukh) will be blocked.

Alternative Route: Manor (Ten Naka) - left turn - Posheri - Pali - Wada Naka - Shirish Pada - Ambadi - Bhiwandi.

"This traffic restriction does not apply to police vehicles, fire brigade, ambulances, green corridor vehicles, oxygen tankers, or other essential service vehicles. Light vehicles are allowed to use the road," the official notification said.
