A woman was critically injured after her ex-husband allegedly attacked her with the wooden handle of an axe in Mankhurd in the early hours of Thursday, leaving her husband sustained injuries when he tried to intervene, police said.
The incident allegedly occurred around 2.28 am on January 15 at Jai Ambe Maa Chawl in Sate Nagar, Mankhurd, when the woman, her husband and their minor daughter were asleep at home. According to police, the prime accused, Suraj Suryavanshi, the woman’s former husband, allegedly entered the house along with his friend Rohit and launched the assault.
Police said the woman had separated from Suryavanshi and was currently living with her second husband, Sandeep Naidu, a situation the accused allegedly resented. Investigators believe this may have led to the violent attack.
