<p>This is the garbage that has been piled up on <strong><a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mid-day-ask-the-govt-residents-call-for-cleaner-air-clearer-roads-and-a-new-metro-line-23620951" rel="nofollow">South Avenue</a></strong>, between 18th and 17th Road a little after the Hanuman Mandir, Santacruz West.</p>

<h2>Debris dumping on mangroves</h2>
<p>This mangroves near Hotel Retreat in <strong><a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mid-day-ask-the-govt-when-will-roads-noise-and-neglect-be-addressed-23628674" rel="nofollow">Madh Island</a></strong> had a pond which, since a few months, has been ruined by debris dumping by the land mafia. Cranes are normally seen around this spot all year round.&nbsp;<br /><strong>Rakesh Sharma</strong></p>
<h2>Loud music by Metro workers</h2>
<p>We are happy to observe that the Metro construction in Santacruz West (Yellow line) is going on in full swing. However, there are workers who play loud music at odd hours, especially at night. We, the surrounding residents, are constantly disturbed by this at night. We request the authorities concerned to look into the matter and resolve the issue as soon as possible.<br /><strong>Seema Bokkasan</strong></p>
<h2>Exposed electric wire</h2>

<p>A thick high-voltage electric cable is lying unattended on the ground at busy residential Cross Pakhhadi lane, near Almeida Villa, Yari Road for the last one year causing <strong><a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mid-day-ask-the-govt-citizens-raise-concerns-over-illegal-stalls-pigeon-nuisances-and-potholes-23623219" rel="nofollow">daily inconvenience</a></strong> to pedestrians and posing grave safety risk to residents, especially children and senior citizens. The cable runs across the narrow pathway near three buildings including one Ya Husain mosque where footfall is higher for the prayers, forcing people to step over or around it. During rainy days, the situation gets even more dangerous when water accumulates around the exposed cable. Despite repeated complaints to the authority concerned no action has been taken so far.&nbsp;<br /><strong>Iqbal Gilani Mansuri</strong></p>
<h2>No lights on station road</h2>
<p>This is with regard to numerous illegalities, encroachments, and irregularities partaking openly, fearlessly with blessings of politicians in mayor Ritu Tawde&rsquo;s own ward no. 132 of Ghatkopar East. The entire Vidyavihar station road has zero streetlights. This stretch is extremely unsafe for women and the elderly. Also, there are handicapped telephone booths operating as paan beedi shops at Bhaveshwar Lane. Several complaints and written emails have had zero effect. Repairs and maintenance department does not listen to our pleas... So many seniors have tripped or falled, but this has had zero effect on bandhkam department.<br /><strong>Anonymous</strong></p>
<h2>Responses</h2>
<p>After Mumbaikars sent in their questions and woes to mid-day last Monday, some of the authorities concerned responded. We haven&rsquo;t given up on the rest. We shall continue to hold <strong><a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-and-thane-residents-flag-civic-woes-from-reckless-motorists-to-dug-up-roads-23618897" rel="nofollow">authorities accountable</a></strong> for the state of the city.</p>

<h2>Broken drain cover fixed!</h2>
<p><strong>Reader: C Gitanjali</strong><br />BMC responds: &ldquo;We had already noticed the issue and had gotten a few complaints from the residents of the area; hence we have rectified the issue by installing a new and proper drain cover in the area.,&rdquo; said Mandar Chaudhary, assistant engineer, H West ward. BMC shared a picture of the replaced drain cover as proof of action taken.</p>
<h2>Bikers using footpath</h2>
<p><strong>Reader: Dr Kumarswamy</strong><br />BMC responds: Assistant Commissioner Shankar Bhosle of the M West ward said, &ldquo;We will do a site inspection near the area, see what all is required, and get the work done accordingly.&rdquo;</p>
<h2>Massive Encroachment</h2>
<p><strong>Reader: Khalid Shaikh</strong><br />BMC responds: A BMC official said, &ldquo;Encroachment by drug addicts is a law and order issue. BMC has previously taken action against unauthorised bikes parked on streets in B ward. However, if extortion is taking place, we will look into the issue, and a police complaint can be filed at the nearest police station.&rdquo;</p>
<h2>Where is the footpath?</h2>
<p><strong>Reader: Vinod Jain</strong><br />BMC responds: The ward officer of the L Ward, Assistant Commissioner Dhanaji Herlekar, said, &ldquo;We will do a site inspection of the area and see what the issue is. If there are temporary settlements, we will remove them, but if the footpath is actually not in place then we will talk to the <strong><a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-and-thane-residents-flag-civic-woes-from-reckless-motorists-to-dug-up-roads-23618897" rel="nofollow">roads department</a></strong> and work on a solution.&rdquo;</p>
<h2>Encroached road</h2>
<p><strong>Reader: Vispi Dotiwalla</strong><br />BMC responds: A BMC official said, &ldquo;We will look into the issue and ensure the public road is not blocked. Regarding removing two-wheelers, a complaint can be lodged at the local police station with regard to violation of personal property.&rdquo;</p>
