Kurar police arrest five, including an auto driver who knew the victims, as they stay in the same locality
Akash Shinde, the auto driver, robbed the duo along with four others
The Kurar police on Sunday night arrested an auto driver and four others for allegedly robbing two men at knifepoint in Malad East. Sources said the accused were nabbed within hours of the robbery. They identified the accused as Akash Shinde, the auto driver, and his accomplices Ganesh Anil Raje, Mahesh Kamble, Sunny Ghode and Ram Ashok Raje.
Deenbandhu Das, 23, and Kallan Dulai, 25, were waiting to hire an auto outside Rajesh Restaurant & Bar in Laxman Nagar when Shinde approached them, sources said. Shinde offered to take Das and Dulai to their destination, even though four others – the accused – were already sitting in the auto. As Das knew Shinde, they agreed.

Some distance ahead, one of the accused pulled out a knife, put it on Das’s throat and asked him to take out all the cash he had. Then, they pushed him out of the running auto, and repeated the same thing with Dulai who was dumped a few metres ahead of Das.
Both the victims immediately informed the cops. and a case was filed at the Kurar police station. Under the supervision of Senior Inspector Satesh Gadhav, Assistant Inspector Pankaj Wankhede and his team began the investigation and nabbed the accused from different parts of Kurar within a couple of hours, said an officer.
They are all in police custody now, said cops. During the probe, the police learnt that Ram is a repeat offender, facing multiple cases in Kurar and other police stations. The accused would roam about in the auto at night to target passengers waiting for rickshaws outside bars and rob them. Police said the complainants and Shinde live in the same locality.
