A five-member team of forensic surgeons and a forensic pathologist from the R. N. Cooper Postmortem Centre and HBT Medical College conducted a two-hour-long autopsy on the mortal remains of model-turned-actor Shefali Jhariwala (42) on Saturday afternoon, who was declared dead at R. N. Cooper Hospital on Friday night.

Shefali was rushed to a private hospital near her residence in Andheri (West), but was instead referred to Cooper Hospital, where she was declared brought dead on arrival.

The hospital informed the Amboli Police about her demise.

“We have preserved the viscera samples for forensic analysis to determine the exact cause of death. A preliminary report has been issued mentioning ‘opinion reserved’,” said the hospital source.

Preliminary statements of her husband recorded by the police hinted that the deceased was undergoing anti-ageing treatment for a while and was on prescribed medications.

The statement was attached to the other papers, including the police panchnama, sent to the postmortem centre with the body.

The autopsy started at 2 pm and went on till 4 pm on Saturday.

Shefali Jhariwala’s (42) mortal remains reached Cooper Postmortem Centre this morning.

According to sources privy to the PM centre, the arrival of the body was confirmed, but they were awaiting some papers from Amboli Police before dissection of the body could begin.

A mobile forensic analysis team attached to the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory in Kalina area of Mumbai, visited the residence of the deceased last night, looking for any forensic clues.

“Only once the autopsy is completed, the forensic surgeon will share the findings and issue the preliminary cause of death, and accordingly, the police would decide on the line of investigation,” said a forensic surgeon from a city medical college.

The Amboli Police have registered the death as an ADR under Section 194 of the BNSS.
