The Khar police have arrested two youths for dangerously driving a car while filming a stunt video at Carter Road. The video, which went viral on social media, showed one of the accused sitting on the moving vehicle's bonnet posing a serious risk to public safety.
The incident took place around 12.27 am on June 7 and came to the police's attention after the video was posted on the ‘Bandra Buzz’ handle on X. Following verification, the Khar police initiated an investigation.
Based on CCTV footage, the police identified and apprehended the accused, Mohammad Altaf Abdul Salam Shaikh, 22, a professional driver residing at Ratna Tower near Rehman Restaurant, Shahu Nagar, Dharavi and Gulam Qadir Ali Syed, 21, a resident of MK Lal Chawl on Jasmine Road, Dharavi.
“After receiving the information, we registered an FIR under Sections 281, 125, and 3(5) of the BNS, along with Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act,” said a police officer. Acting under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Sanjeev Dhumal, a team led by PSI Hanmant Kumbhare and the crime detection squad tracked down the duo.
“Once the viral video was brought to our notice, we traced the car's movement using CCTV footage and located it in Dharavi. The act of driving recklessly with a person on the bonnet is not only illegal but also extremely dangerous to both the occupants and the public,” said an officer.
