A 30-year old man from Palghar district was sentenced to life imprisonment after five years of murdering his 17-year-old pregnant girlfriend.
According to a report in <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/thane/thane-married-man-gets-life-for-murder-of-pregnant-teen-lover/articleshow/71947423.cms" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">The Times of India</a>, The accused was found guilty of rape and murder under IPC sections 376, 302, and 201, and sections 4 and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Allegedly, the accused made the murder look like a suicide.
According to the police, the accused is a resident of Ruimata village in Jawhar Taluka who dealt in farm implements. He was in a relationship with a Class 11 student who was his wife's friend. When the 17-year-old got pregnant, she asked the accused to marry her. Because the accused had a wife and a child, he did not want to divorce her, said the police.
The police investigation revealed that on July 14, 2014 he called the girl to an isolated spot in Jawhar and gave her a soft drink with poison. When she collapsed after consuming the drink, he strangulated her and hung her from a pole. He also scribbled a suicide note in her book, which said that she was two months pregnant and was ending her life as Deepak had refused to marry her.
The police registered a case of accidental death. While the police could not find Deepak the police questioned the accused who left his Aadhaar card on the crime spot. While the autopsy report confirmed that the victim was strangulated to death, the victim's call data also showed several calls to the accused on the day of the murder.
The accused was arrested on July 20, 2014, and his handwriting along with the suicide note was sent to the forensic lab. The writing on the note was confirmed to be his and that helped in nailing him.
