<p>From cacophony emerges art. Artist Sunil Padwal&rsquo;s inspiration for the poster of the upcoming Mahindra Blues Festival was the sights and sounds of Mumbai itself. &ldquo;For the last 15 years, my work has revolved around observations of the city and its evolution. This was an extension of the same idea,&rdquo; shared Pathare, an ardent fan of Blues music. &ldquo;When you commute around the city, there are huge cranes, buildings, and the noises and traffic horns. I felt that they had to be part of the artwork. They became a metaphor for the city, with the guitar and trombone symbolising music as an escape,&rdquo; the Lower Parel resident said.</p>

<p>It was all happening at The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/parsi-gymkhana-articles" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener"><strong>Parsi Gymkhana</strong></a> this past weekend. The SoBo venue played host to women lawyers from across Maharashtra at an eight-overs-a-side cricket tourney by the Interactive Lawyers Association for Women (ILAW) called the ILAW Cricket Tournament 2024. There were 10 teams from various courts across Maharashtra including (Nashik, Vasai, Dindoshi, Andheri, Bombay City Civil, Bombay Sessions, Belapur and the Bombay High Court) which participated in the tournament. Dindoshi Strikers emerged victorious after some close matches. The semi-finals saw an impressive display of talent from all teams. The Chief Guest was Honourable Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court: Chief Justice Devendra K Upadhyaya while the special guest former India cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin. Event organiser and convener, Anita Shekhar Castellino said, &ldquo;This is the first time that women lawyers have stepped out of the courtroom and onto the cricket field. We brought them together in a different setting and built sportsmen spirit. Judges playing alongside lawyers was a real morale booster.&rdquo; Well played, all legal eagles. May you soar over the cricket field like you do across courtrooms.</p>

<p>Right before Taylor Swift broke her own record by winning the fourth gramophone for Best Album, fans on social media started making their profile pictures black and white.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Taylor made hers black and white first. We were convinced that she is announcing [a re-recorded version of] Reputation [Taylor&rsquo;s Version]. However, she announced a new album instead!&rdquo; reveal Thane&rsquo;s Ritu Bhoite and Priyanka Shirsath, founders of Swiftie Night India, &ldquo;Hence, almost every Swiftie changed their profile pictures. But she shocked us all by being the mastermind she is.&rdquo;</p>
<h2>Mars on their mind</h2>

<p>With their eyes on planet Mars, the DJS Antariksh team of Dwarkadas J Sanghvi College of Engineering earned two awards for the city last week, courtesy their Martian rover and a drone. &ldquo;We secured second position worldwide in the International Space Drone Challenge 2024 and third position worldwide in International Rover Challenge 2024. This marks our debut in constructing space drones, competing in two events simultaneously and clinching a double podium,&rdquo; informed team mentor and former captain Bhaumik Thakkar. Current captain, 20-year-old Ojas Chanakya added, &ldquo;The team was formed in 2019, and because of the pandemic that followed, we could only take part in design competitions. Last year, we took part in our first-ever offline competition. This year, we improvised on our rover design, made the drone from scratch and brought two trophies home!&rdquo;</p>

<p>In a departure from actor Poonam Pandey&rsquo;s means of spreading awareness for cancer, this diarist spotted school students taking to the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/search/marine-drive-articles" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener"><strong>Marine Drive promenade</strong></a> on Cancer Day last Sunday, holding placards sporting heart-warming illustrations. &ldquo;Nearly 1,000 children from several schools across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai are taking part in the run,&rdquo; a volunteer, who was regulating the children, informed, &ldquo;This is being organised by Atlas SkillTech University, where the students are paying tribute to iconic Canadian athlete Terry Fox, who succumbed to cancer in 1981.&rdquo;</p><p>
