Mumbai Police on Thursday asked protesters gathered at Hutatma Chowk to move to Azad Maidan, saying lawyers had called off their planned demonstration for the day. However, lawyers at the site told mid-day that their protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and the arrests of lawyers in Delhi would be held on Friday at Gate No. 4 of the Bombay High Court.
ACP Nilesh Bagul asked those who were not lawyers to leave Hutatma Chowk and proceed to Azad Maidan, where demonstrations are permitted within designated areas. Police maintained that the lawyers’ protest had been called off for Thursday, even as those at the site said the agitation would continue the following day.
