A roof sheet at Panvel <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/konkan-railway-updates-konkan-railway-to-operate-5-hour-block-at-madgaon-on-july-24-check-details-here-23641264" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">railway station</a> on Thursday evening fell while platform extension work was underway, officials said, adding that no one was injured in the incident.
The officials said that it was minor incident and the sheet from an old roof and a supporting pillar linked to the overhead equipment (OHE) fell down during ongoing infrastructure work at the station.
Visuals shared by a commuter showed the fallen structure at the site.
<h2>No train disruptions</h2>
Officials said there were no injuries in the incident and railway services were not affected.
The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-rains-mrvc-completes-waterproof-subway-near-bhiwandi-road-station-23635302" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC)</a>, which is carrying out the platform extension project, described the incident as a minor mishap.
According to MRVC, the fall occurred while workers were removing a section of the old roof structure.
The agency said the falling of the old roof sheet led to the incident, along with the collapse of the supporting OHE pillar.
<h2>Safety measures and work continue</h2>
The officials said that necessary measures are being taken at the site to ensure safety while the platform extension work continues.

<h2>The project</h2>
The work underway at Panvel station forms part of the Panvel-Karjat New Suburban Corridor Project and includes the planned dismantling of old station structures to facilitate platform extension works.
The work is being executed in a controlled environment in accordance with the approved methodology, with all prescribed safety precautions and engineering protocols being followed throughout the execution.
"During the systematic removal of an old roof structure, a portion of the dismantled sheet came in contact with a non-operational (dead) OHE mast within the designated work area. The occurrence was confined entirely to the construction zone during the course of the planned dismantling activity," said an official.
