Six passengers were safely rescued after a lift at <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-churchgate-tree-fall-leaves-two-injured-after-tree-crashes-onto-four-vehicles-23645186" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Churchgate Metro Station</a> temporarily stopped operating due to a technical fault, officials said.
The incident caused brief concern among passengers, but there were no reports of injuries.
According to officials, six people were inside the lift when it stopped due to the technical issue.
The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/air-india-flight-updates-patna-delhi-air-india-flight-suffers-bird-strike-at-airport-all-164-passengers-safe-23646381" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">passengers were safely evacuated</a> within five minutes of the incident, officials said.
<h2>Lift restored to normal operation</h2>
Following the rescue, the technical issue was addressed and the lift was restored to normal functioning.
The situation was brought under control promptly and there was no further disruption, sources said.
<h2>Monorail to undergo additional safety checks before reopening</h2>
Meanwhile, the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/2025-mumbai-monorail-rescue-13-mumbai-fire-brigade-personnel-receive-presidents-medal-for-gallantry-23644981" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Mumbai Monorail </a>is likely to take the tracks only after all necessary safety checks and precautionary measures are completed, with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) opting for an additional inspection of the elevated corridor before restarting services, officials had said last week.
The Chembur&ndash;Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk corridor has remained shut for nearly a year.A Mumbai Monorail train had broke down near Mysore Colony Station in Chembur on August 19, 2025, leaving 582 passengers stranded inside the train.
The train had stopped at a height of around 40 to 50 feet above the ground, creating a challenging and dangerous situation for both the passengers and rescue teams. Mumbai Fire Brigade personnel had launched a massive rescue operation to evacuate the stranded passengers and all passengers were successfully evacuated.
While the Monorail has completed safety tests and received clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), MMRDA wants to address concerns over gaps at certain portions of the elevated structure before services resume.
<h2>Safety takes priority</h2>
According to the officials, the gaps need to be examined as vehicles and pedestrians move below the elevated corridor. The authority wants to rule out the possibility of any loose component or other object falling onto the road.
<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-crane-accident-mmrda-imposes-rs-25-lakh-penalty-orders-aid-for-injured-23645957" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Sanjay Mukherjee</a> said the additional inspection will assess whether the gaps can be covered or if other safety measures are required.
The move is aimed at ensuring that the Mumbai Monorail is reopened only after all safety concerns are addressed, and necessary precautions are in place. Any work recommended following the inspection will be completed before the service resumes.
