To discourage miscreants from sneaking into the Maharashtra Nature Park (MNP) at night, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to strengthen the front boundary wall of the park with a chain-link fence. According to officials, there are a few areas through which miscreants regularly enter the Dharavi park.

&ldquo;We have invited tenders for providing and setting up the fence. We expect the work to be completed before the start of monsoon season. The fencing will be done on the front side of the wall, in order to make the premises more secure. People will not be able to jump over the wall and enter the park,&rdquo; said an MMRDA official.
Local residents alleged that after sunset, some anti-social elements enter MNP illegally through openings on the boundary wall, and it is tough for security guards to catch them, as the miscreants hide behind bushes. &ldquo;Chain-link fencing will prevent people from entering the park. MNP is a nature lovers&rsquo; paradise and it should be protected,&rdquo; said a local resident.
About the park Maharashtra Nature Park (MNP) has been developed by the MMRDA, with the help of a private NGO. Once a dumping ground and landfill, the area has now been transformed into a small forest.
According to officials, the park is home to about 63 species of birds, 40 varieties of butterflies, snakes, other insects, and over 13,500 trees of various species including herbs, shrubs, grasses, etc. Between October and March, it becomes the go-to spot for birdwatchers.
