NCP (SP) president and Rajya Sabha member <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/ncp-sp-says-sharad-pawar-pioneered-womens-reservation-asks-bjp-to-acknowledge-23625900" rel="nofollow">Sharad Pawar</a> has been admitted to a private hospital in Mumbai for a health check-up, sources said on Tuesday.
As reported by news agency PTI, the 85-year-old former Union minister was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital two days ago.
A PTI source further confirmed that "He is in the hospital for a check-up and follow-up. There is nothing serious."&nbsp;
Recently, Pawar took the oath as a Rajya Sabha member while seated in a wheelchair. Soon after taking the oath as a Rajya Sabha member, Pawar also addressed the media in Delhi.
Earlier in February, the veteran politician and NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar was admitted to a private hospital in Pune after experiencing mild dehydration. The 85-year-old Rajya Sabha MP, days after being kept under medical supervision, was discharged.
According to a statement issued by Ruby Hall Clinic, Pawar received intravenous fluids as part of his <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/text-shots/supriya-sule-calls-for-immediate-action-over-rising-crimes-against-women-in-maharashtra-23626626" rel="nofollow">treatment</a>.&nbsp;
While Sharad Pawar was being admitted to the Pune hospital for quite a few days, Dr Purvez Grant, chief cardiologist and chairman as well as managing trustee of the hospital, said Pawar&rsquo;s condition was not serious. His treatment was being overseen by Dr Grant, along with consultant physician Dr Abhijit Lodha.&rdquo;
<h2>NCP (SP) hails Sharad Pawar&rsquo;s stand on pioneering women's reservation</h2>
Hailing the party chief, NCP (SP) on April 15 said that party supremo Sharad Pawar introduced reservation for women in local self-government bodies in Maharashtra decades ago, and the BJP should acknowledge his contribution to women's empowerment.
In a statement, NCP (SP) spokesperson Mahesh Tapase said, "In <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/ncp-sp-says-sharad-pawar-pioneered-womens-reservation-asks-bjp-to-acknowledge-23625900" rel="nofollow">Maharashtra</a>, it was Sharad Pawar who (as chief minister) implemented 33 per cent reservation for women in local self-government bodies, which was later increased to 50 per cent. Pawar was a key architect of women's empowerment in governance."
"The BJP-led government should acknowledge Pawar's contribution during discussions on the women's reservation bill," he added.
Pawar also took steps to facilitate women's employment in the armed forces when he was defence minister and proposed 50 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies as early as 2012, the spokesperson further said, reported PTI.
