Minutes before Manpreet Sahans, 14, jumped to death, he had posted a picture of his feet dangling off the terrace with the chilling words, "Soon the only thing you would be left with is a picture of me." Cops are worried that he may be the first Indian victim of the Blue Whale suicide challenge that has claimed over 130 lives globally.
Manpreet died around 5.50 pm on Saturday, after he jumped off the terrace of his building while his family members were inside. The Std IX student was spotted on the terrace by a neighbour in the opposite building. The neighbour shouted at Manpreet and asked him to move back to safety, but the boy refused to listen. The man decided to go to the teen's building and save him, but by then Manpreet had jumped.

Another neighbour from the opposite building said, "The family is traumatised by the incident, they are not in a condition to speak about it. The matter is being investigated by the police."
Sources said Manpreet had been hooked to the suicide challenge called 'Blue Whale', which assigns daily tasks to the players for 50 days, with the final challenge requiring the player to kill themselves.
A police officer who is part of the investigation said, "We have recorded the statement of the witness and are investigating the case. Prima facie, it looks like a suicide case, but the reason is yet to be concluded. We will scan the gadgets he used and his social media accounts to identify the exact reason for this extreme step."
"We are yet to record the statements of his parents; we will also question his friends if needed," the officer added.
