In a significant outbreak, the MHB Colony Police have arrested a 28-year-old woman accused of stealing a gold mangalsutra from an open house in Dahisar West. The arrested accused has been identified as Renuka Manohar Nadar (28).
According to the police officials, the complainant, Jayabai Ram Satpute (60), a homemaker residing at Room No. 03, Ekta Welfare Society, Navagaon, Dahisar West, reported that on October 5, 2025, at around 6:00 pm, an unknown woman entered her open house and asked for a glass of water.
While the complainant went inside to get the water, the accused allegedly stole a 20-gram gold mangalsutra kept on the sofa and fled away instantly.
Following the complaint, MHB colony police analysed CCTV footage from the area and gathered local intelligence. Moreover, the police identified the accused. The accused, who has been arrested, is said to be a resident of Hanuman Tekdi, Makdala Compound, Navagaon, Dahisar West.
A search was initiated, but the accused was initially absconding. Her mobile phone was found switched off, and her family informed police that she had not returned home for several days. Later, a confidential tip-off revealed that Renuka was attending a friend’s birthday party at a resort in Gorai village.
Acting swiftly on the complaint filed by the victim, a police team led by Police Sub-Inspector Nilesh Patil reached Gorai and searched more than 8 to 10 hotels and resorts.
However, soon after searching many resorts, at Whispering Palms Resort, they found a group of 8 to 10 young men and women partying. Upon further inquiry and inspection of the lodging rooms, police discovered Renuka hiding in one of the rooms, said an officer from MHB police station.
The accused was then immediately taken into custody with the assistance of women police personnel and, during interrogation, confessed to the theft. The stolen gold mangalsutra has been recovered, he added.
Police records indicate that the accused also had a criminal history and was caught under the PITA Act for running a prostitution racket using women and minor girls.
"She was in jail for more than two years and came out on bail before Covid," said another officer.
The accused was booked and arrested; furthermore, she was produced before the court and remanded to police custody, he added.
