Mumbai University has introduced a 'Boom Barrier System' at the entrances of its Vidyanagari campus to increase security at the premises, officials said on Thursday.

According to an official statement, from July 31, only vehicles with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) stickers will be allowed entry at the premises.

It said that the Mumbai University’s security department has issued RFID stickers to university officials, faculty members, and non-teaching staff. With high-quality boom barriers and long-range RFID readers now in place, authorised vehicles will be granted smoother and more secure access into the campus.

All vehicles entering the Vidyanagari campus will now be automatically recorded, and unauthorised vehicles will be strictly denied entry.

The Vidyanagari campus houses various academic departments, administrative offices, staff residences, and student hostels. Given the large volume of vehicle movement through its three main entry gates, the new system has been installed to improve safety and stop unauthorised vehicle movement. This move also aims to prevent any untoward incidents on campus, the statement said.

The boom barrier system has been activated at all three gates, ensuring consistent monitoring and safety throughout the premises.

The system was officially inaugurated today by Mumbai University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ravindra Kulkarni in presences of Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ajay Bhamre, Registrar Dr. Prasad Karande, Finance and Accounts Officer CA Harshal Wagh, and Security Officers Balasaheb Kharat and Kiran Vasave, among other dignitaries, it said.
