Law enforcement agencies in Maharashtra are on high alert following crucial intelligence inputs from Central agencies based in New Delhi. The intel reveals that Jyoti Malhotra, a Haryana-based YouTuber accused of spying for Pakistan, had conducted reconnaissance at Lalbaugcha Raja during the Ganpati festival over the past two years. Malhotra is accused of travelling to Pakistan multiple times, where she allegedly met with intelligence operatives and shared sensitive and classified information.

Speaking to mid-day, Maharashtra’s Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, said, “We have received inputs from Central agencies that YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra made several visits to Mumbai. She reportedly clicked multiple photos and videos, the purpose of which remains unclear. All our security agencies, especially in Mumbai, are on high alert.” “We are gathering more information regarding all the places she visited. This is a highly sensitive matter, so we cannot share extensive details at this point. However, the investigation is progressing in the right direction,” Kadam added.

When asked whether the state would seek Malhotra’s custody, Kadam said, “It’s premature to comment at this stage. However, if we uncover any leads that warrant her custodial interrogation, we will formally request the central agencies. Currently, the central investigative agencies are leading the probe, with close coordination from the Maharashtra police.

The chief minister is personally monitoring all developments.”

Timeline of visits, digital trail

According to sources, Jyoti Malhotra visited Mumbai multiple times between 2023 and 2024.

During each visit, she filmed and photographed various parts of the city, including sensitive locations.

Her travel history includes:

July 2024: Arrived in Mumbai via a luxury bus

August 2024: Took the Karnavati Express from Ahmedabad

September 2024: Travelled from New Delhi on the Punjab Mail

2023 Ganpati Festival: Captured videos of crowds and surroundings at Lalbaugcha Raja

Investigators have recovered several sensitive videos and photographs that Malhotra had previously deleted from her devices. Using advanced forensic recovery techniques, authorities retrieved the data and are now trying to determine to whom the files were sent and what sensitive information they might contain.

Maharashtra police are known for maintaining heightened vigilance during major festivals such as Ganpati Utsav, Diwali, and Navratri, when elaborate security arrangements are routinely implemented.

In a recent move to bolster intelligence operations, the state government created a new post of Joint Commissioner of Police (Intelligence), an IG-rank position, to enhance Mumbai’s security infrastructure.

Malhotra, 33, was arrested by Haryana Police last week under charges of espionage. Authorities allege that she maintained regular contact with Pakistani intelligence officials during her visits to the neighbouring country.

Her financial records and digital communications are now under intense scrutiny as investigators attempt to build a watertight case.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra case

“People like this pose as white-collar individuals and commit acts of treason. This is evident in the case of Jyoti Malhotra. It is gradually coming to light where she conducted reconnaissance. We are also identifying others who may be involved. Anyone who conspires against India will not be spared,” said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
