Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Thursday directed that all tehsildar orders in farm and access road disputes be implemented within seven days.
According to the news agency PTI, A government resolution (GR) issued after Bawankule’s directive mandates revenue officials to ensure physical execution of such orders within a week, supported by spot inspection reports and geo-tagged photographs as proof.
The move aims to provide citizens and farmers with actual road access, ensuring that official directives are carried out on the ground rather than remaining on paper.
The decision stems from recommendations made by a study committee headed by the Pune Divisional Commissioner, following Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s instructions to simplify procedures for citizens. The committee noted that while officials often issued orders under the Mamlatdar Courts Act, 1906 and Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, 1966, there was no system to verify their implementation.
According to the GR, no case should be closed until the order has been fully executed and verified through documentation and photographs. Officials must complete this verification process within seven days of the final order.
As per PTI, Bawankule said, "The decision was taken in the interest of farmers to ensure complete resolution of complaints and accountability of officials. District collectors, sub-divisional officers and tehsildars have been directed to issue immediate instructions to subordinate staff and monitor timely implementation," Bawankule said.
The new system is expected to offer significant relief to thousands of citizens awaiting resolution in long-pending land and access road disputes.
Maharashtra govt to provide farm loan waiver but will ensure only genuine, eligible farmers benefit: Chandrashekhar Bawankule
Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Thursday said the state government will definitely implement a farm loan waiver scheme but only after ensuring that it benefits genuine and eligible farmers, reported news agency PTI.
The government does not want to announce a loan waiver scheme in a hasty manner, he said.
Earlier this month, the state government announced a compensation package of Rs 31,628 crore for farmers who suffered massive losses due to rains and floods during this year's monsoon. As per the data, as many as 29 of the total 36 districts and 253 (out of 358) talukas suffered due to heavy rains.
The opposition parties have been demanding a complete loan waiver for the affected farmers.
Talking to a Marathi news channel in Nagpur, Bawankule said, "The government is committed to introducing a crop loan waiver, but it will be designed in such a way that only real farmers who have taken loans for agricultural purposes will benefit. Those who have built farmhouses or large houses on their agricultural land and shown such loans as farm-related will not be eligible," reported PTI.
