In Thane, a man has been taken into custody for allegedly beating a close relative to death and causing injuries to her 14-year-old son during a dispute, as reported by the local police on Sunday.
According to the report in PTI, the suspect, identified as Sanju Vilas Lokhande, aged 30, was arrested during the early hours of the day. He is facing charges under sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempted murder) of the Indian Penal Code, according to an official statement.

The incident unfolded when the accused, hailing from Talegaon in Pune, engaged in a heated argument with his relative, Durga Anil Kunte, aged 40, who resided in a chawl in the Kokani Pada area, the report further stated. The confrontation escalated, leading the accused to assault the woman with an iron pipe on Saturday evening. In the process, he also inflicted injuries upon her 14-year-old son Yash.
The victim's body has been sent for post-mortem at a government hospital, while the injured teenager received medical attention at a hospital, stated the official.
Man kills mother over property dispute
In another incident reported from Mumbai's Wadala, a man allegedly killed his mother over a property dispute. Reportedly, the dismembered and partially burnt body of a woman was found in a gunny bag in the BPT colony on October 27 and her son has been held for matricide. Authorities suspected the body was dismembered before it was set ablaze; the woman reportedly had head and back injuries.
Reportedly, the deceased, who is in her 70s, worked as a domestic help. The employers were concerned for her and contacted her relatives who contacted Wadala Police. They began a probe into the case and it was ultimately revealed that her son allegedly committed the crime.
The police had gone into overdrive on Saturday and they had distributed pamphlets and analysed missing persons' complaints. "Other than the nose ring, ring, and earrings, we have no identifying marks on the body. The pamphlets feature images of the jewellery, and we are also examining all missing person reports for potential leads," the police had confirmed.
