The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday hit back at Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his remark that Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi would “dance for votes”. The party said Gandhi’s statement is an insult to both PM Modi and the country’s poor, news agency ANI reported.

BJP Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari accused the Congress Member of Parliament (MP) of “mocking voters” and “insulting Indian democracy”.

In a post on X, Bhandari wrote, “Rahul Gandhi speaks like a ‘local goon’. He has openly insulted every poor of India and Bihar who voted for PM Narendra Modi. Rahul Gandhi has mocked voters and Indian democracy.”

The Congress leader, while addressing a joint rally with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Mahagathbandhan chief ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav, had said, “If you ask him to do a drama for votes, he will. You can make him do anything. If you tell Narendra Modi to dance, he will dance.”

Gandhi also criticised the PM over economic issues, alleging that demonetisation and the Goods and Services Tax (GST) had “destroyed all small businesses”, ANI reported.

“Tell me what is written on the back of your phone — Made in China. Narendra Modi ji has destroyed all the small businesses by implementing demonetisation and GST. Wherever you look, it is Made in China. We say it should be Made in Bihar. Mobiles, shirts, pants — all should be made in Bihar, and the youth of Bihar should get employment in those factories. We want such a Bihar,” Gandhi said.

The upcoming 2025 Bihar Elections will be fought between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) — comprising the BJP, Janata Dal (United), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), and Rashtriya Lok Morcha — and the opposition Mahagathbandhan, led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal, along with the Congress, Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), CPI, CPI (Marxist), and Mukesh Sahani’s Vikasheel Insaan Party.

Meanwhile, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj has announced it will contest all 243 seats in the state.

Bihar Elections will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11, with results to be declared on November 14.
