MCD decides to go for another round of desilting of drains for CWG

Monsoons have washed away all the tall claims of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). A senior works department official told MiD DAY that the step was being taken keeping in view reports from local councillors that desilting work has not been done properly and they were already apprehensive about the arrangements. "We are doing whatever we can for remedial measures. After the monsoon is over, we are planning to carry out the desilting exercise one more time," said the official.

As reported by MiD DAY councillors from over 70 wards had complained to works committee chairman, Jagdish Mamgain about the shoddy work done in their respective areas by the works department.

The MCD this year carried out the desilting work on its own and the first phase was completed well in time by
Rain, rain, go away

While everybody is looking forward to a good monsoon in the country, there are a few people in the MCD who are praying for lesser rains in the hills.
"If there is a flood-like situation in the Yamuna, the water, which is flowing out of Delhi drains, will get blocked. Due to this the debris which is flowing out of the city into the Yamuna through these drains will fill up the canals and low lying areas will witness heavy water-logging," said the officials.
