As Sinhagad group college gropes for answers, police decide to question family

The suicide of a second year student of Sou Venutai Chavan Polytechnic, which is registered under the Sinhagad Technical Education Society, has left authorities at the institute wondering what could have gone wrong with the young woman who was au00a0 college topper.

Jyoti Sanape was found hanging from the ceiling of her hostel room yesterday. One of her roommates discovered her body.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, an official said that some family issues had troubled her. "I heard some of the students say that there were some family tensions bothering her. I know nothing more," he added.

The police will soon start questioning her family.
The police suspect the timing of the suicide to be between 7.30 am and 9.30 am, though medical reports that will throw more light on this are awaited. Her body has been sent to Sassoon hospital for the post-mortem.
College officials who were shaken up after hearing of the incident said that she was a good student and had topped the entire college with 88 per cent.

According to Principal K C Salunke, the deceased was humble and dedicated to her work. Registrar Nutan D Bankar said, "Jyoti was quiet and had gone to meet her sister to celebrate Gudi Padwa and her brother-in-law dropped her to campus."
