Four killed, one  injured after being hit by Vande Bharat train in Bihar's Purnea

Four persons were killed and another was injured after being hit by a Vande Bharat train in Purnea district of Bihar on Friday while trying to cross the tracks, an official said, reported the PTI.

The incident took place around 4 am on the Katihar-Jogbani section, said Munna Kumar, Station Manager-Purnea Junction.


"A group of youngsters was trying to cross the tracks. Because it was dark and the weather overcast, they could not notice the speeding train in time," Kumar said, according to the PTI.



The lone survivor has been admitted to Purnea Medical College and Hospital for treatment, he said.

The deceased were said to be in the age group of 14-18 years, and residents of the Kasba block.

Following the incident Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed grief over the deaths and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured person, as per the PTI.

In a condolence message, the CM Nitish Kumar also prayed for succour to the bereaved family members.

Meanwhile, in an anther incident in Uttar Pradesh, a 45-year-old man was killed after being hit by a train near the Aliganj railway crossing in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow on Wednesday, the police said, reported the PTI.

The deceased was identified as Guddu, a resident of Nirala Nagar, an official said.

The police said that following the incident his wife reached out to the police and reported the matter to the officials on Wednesday.

A team of police officials rushed to the spot and launched an investigation into the matter.

According to police, his body was found about 150 metres from the crossing beneath the Vivekananda overbridge in the Hasanganj police station area.

His body was recovered from spot and later shifted it to a hospital for an autopsy, said an official.

He added that police have launched a probe into the matter and was investigating the case further.
