Oil marketing companies on Friday announced a hike of Rs 3 per litre in petrol and diesel prices, pushing fuel rates higher across major metro cities amid rising global energy costs linked to the ongoing West Asia conflict.

The latest increase, however, is only a fraction of the hike that would have been required to fully offset the sharp surge in international crude oil prices.
