The much-maligned men in khaki have their moments of morality. And the man of one such moment was Government Railway Police (GRP) constable Prashant Doiphode, who returned Rs 9,000 to a nationalised bank after finding the cash trapped in one of its ATMs. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/may/PN15E131604_2.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 402px;" /> Morality over money: Constable Prashant Doiphode displays the receipt he got from the bank after handing over the found money. Pic/Krunal Gosavi &ldquo;I had gone to drop my wife off at work in Undri around 9.30 am on Monday. As I was short of cash, I stopped my bike near a State Bank of India ATM booth in the area. I had inserted my card into a machine, when I saw the corner of a currency note peeping out of the cash slot. I tried pulling the note, but it was not coming out. There was no security guard outside the kiosk at the time,&rdquo; said Doiphode. u00a0When the constable flexed his muscles a bit more to dislodge the bill, eight others fell in to the tray &ndash; Rs 9,000 in all. &ldquo;I was taken aback, but soon grasped that due to some technical problems, the notes got trapped inside the machine and the person who had used it earlier left presuming that the amount could not be dispensed,&rdquo; the cop said. Doiphode then collected the money, withdrew some cash from his own account, and reached SBI&rsquo;s Treasury branch in Bund Garden area. &ldquo;I met the ATM cell in-charge, SB Thorat, submitted the cash, narrated the incident to him, and left the office,&rdquo; he said. When contacted, Thorat confirmed the episode and said he intends to write to GRP officials mentioning Doiphode&rsquo;s gesture. He added that the bank has found out whom the cash belonged to &ndash; the account has been traced to AXIS Bank&rsquo;s Pimpri branch, which has been notified with relevant details and the money would be credited to the account of that particular person.
