In an important decision University of Pune (UoP) Academic Council has given official approval for introducing credit system at Post Graduate (PG) level in all 11 faculties. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/may/UoP.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 306px;" /> File Pic &ldquo;Till now the credit system was applicable only for departments situated at UoP campus but from the coming academic year it will be introduced in all affiliated colleges at PG level in all faculties. The academic council in yesterday&rsquo;s meeting has approved a revised syllabus for all faculties,&rdquo; informed Prof Hema More, who was present at the meeting. According to this new system, from the next academic year an Arts PG student will have to complete a total of 64 credits in four semesters and the number of credits will remain 100 for science PG students to complete PG course. &ldquo;By this new system now students will get freedom of credit transfer. A science student can opt for a subject of his interest, which may come under the Arts or other faculty by transferring the credit. By introducing the credit system, the varsity wants to nurture an interdisciplinary approach among students,&rdquo; said a senior academic council member on condition of anonymity. The academic council also stressed the need for appointing separate teachers for PG courses to ensure smooth introduction of the credit system. &ldquo;Till now a recognised teacher eligible for taking classes of graduate courses was asked to take PG courses also. But by the new decision it will be mandatory for every college to appoint separate teachers for PG courses,&rdquo; said More. u00a0
