Several electric vehicles were damaged after a <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/business/business-news/article/mumbai-tata-power-ev-network-powers-414-million-green-miles-across-india-23634851" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">fire gutted an EV showroom</a> and three other shops in Gujarat''s Surat city on Thursday morning, officials said.
No person was injured in the incident which occurred in the Adajan area, they said.&nbsp;
Flames and smoke covered the area, causing panic among people.
The fire started in the EV showroom, and batteries and other spare parts used in the vehicles intensified it, causing the blaze to spread rapidly to adjacent shops, the officials said.&nbsp;
Several Electric Vehicles (EVs) were gutted in the fire, they said.&nbsp;
The city's fire control room received a message about the major blaze in the<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/western-railway-completes-bridge-370-regirdering-at-virar-surat-section-between-bilimora-and-amalsad-23635731" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener"> Adajan area at around 9.30 am.&nbsp;</a>
Vehicles from five to six fire stations were rushed to the location, deputy chief fire officer SG Dhobi said.&nbsp;
"Fire personnel broke the shutters of the shops to control the blaze and prevent any further spread to other shops.&nbsp;
The reason behind the fire is not clear, but it spread to a garage (EV showroom) and the adjacent medicine, ice cream and fast food stores.&nbsp;
When we reached the spot, three shops were on fire," Dhobi said. It was brought under control after a nearly two-hour operation, he added.&nbsp;
The cause of the fire was under investigation.&nbsp;
