In a unique blend of fitness, patriotism, and environmental consciousness, HindAyan has extended an invitation to Members of Parliament to participate in a symbolic two-kilometre cycle ride from the Parliament to the National War Memorial on Sunday, November 30, in commemoration of Vijay Diwas. As per the statement, it will mark India’s victory in the 1971 war and the creation of Bangladesh.
The ride is part of a larger 10-kilometre HindAyan Cycle Parade, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Ministry of Defence, as a tribute to the nation’s armed forces.
As reported, the event will begin at the National Youth Hostel in Chanakyapuri and culminate at the National War Memorial near India Gate.
Aligned with the Ministry of Sports’ flagship initiative “Sunday on Cycle” under the Fit India Mission, the parade seeks to promote cycling as a symbol of health, sustainability, and civic engagement.
HindAyan Foundation, which has been organising cycle expeditions and races since 2022 with government support, has consistently sought to merge cultural awareness with sustainable mobility.
“Every year, the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Territorial Army wholeheartedly participate in the HindAyan Cycle Expedition,” said Vishnudas Chapke, convenor of HindAyan and the first Indian to circumnavigate the globe overland through 35 countries across five continents to raise awareness about climate change.
Chapke confirmed that this year’s parade on Kartavya Path will also feature participation from paramilitary forces, including the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Assam Rifles. Agencies like the National Investigative Agency (NIA), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), National Security Guards (NSG), and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) are in the process of obtaining approvals.
To encourage participation from lawmakers of both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, HindAyan has arranged electric bicycles and tandem cycles for those who may not be comfortable riding standard bicycles. “The idea is to honour our soldiers and promote cycling as a dignified, everyday mode of transport,” Chapke said, urging policymakers to adopt more cycle-friendly policies.
The assembly point for the symbolic ride will be near Rail Bhawan, New Delhi, at 8:25 am. Participants unable to cycle are invited to gather at the National War Memorial to pay homage to India’s martyrs. Attendees are asked to confirm participation at hindayan2020@gmail.com
for logistical arrangements and personalised jerseys.
Lt. Gen. Anil Puri (Retd), the first Indian Army general officer to complete the Paris-Brest-Paris endurance cycling events, emphasised the symbolic importance: “When our lawmakers take to the saddle, it will send a powerful message—restoring dignity to cycling and inspiring millions to embrace it again.”
