The Commonwealth Games may have turned around the fortunes of many and added to the Capital's infrastructure, but some things remain the same. While All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital and Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital got a proper makeover during CWG 2010, Lady Hardinge Medical College in central Delhi lies in a shambles.



The emergency room of the medical college lacks even the basic infrastructure. The casualty room, out patient department (OPD) for surgery, medicine and orthopaedics too are in poor shape. The common room contains only 20 beds for patients. As per the doctors, they at least need 40 beds to provide adequate treatment.

"There are three ventilators; none of them is working. Due to this, we have to refer patients to other hospitals," said another doctor at duty who didn't wish to be named.

The patients are bearing the brunt. Many of them have to wait outside just because there is no space for them. While AIIMS has got 100 beds in the emergency room, there are only 20 beds at Lady Hardinge.
"We have been waiting for 3 hours to get in. Sometimes, our turn never comes," said Ram Kumar, a patient.
The Director of the institution, Dr D K Sharma, didn't respond to MiD DAY's queries.
