Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on Monday lauded the Indian Armed Forces for their exemplary role in Operation Sindoor and underscored their vital contribution to nation-building, according to a defence ministry statement.

PM Modi inaugurated the three-day Combined Commanders’ Conference (CCC) at the Eastern Command headquarters of the Indian Army at Vijay Durg, the erstwhile Fort William, and unveiled the ‘Indian Armed Forces Vision 2047’ document, reported news agency PTI. The document charts the roadmap for a future-ready armed forces, the defence ministry statement said. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also attended the inaugural session, the first such conference following Operation Sindoor.

Operation Sindoor was conceived as a targeted, punitive campaign to dismantle terror infrastructure along the Line of Control and deeper inside Pakistan.

“It showcased a calibrated, tri-services response embodying precision, professionalism and purpose,” a defence official said.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, and all three chiefs of the Indian Armed Forces were among the participants, reported PTI.

“Deliberations are being held on a wide range of strategic issues, including force modernisation, jointness, integration, and enhancing operational readiness for multi-domain warfare,” the Ministry of Defence said.

The CCC, a biennial event, serves as the apex forum for India’s civil and military leadership to exchange views and discuss strategic, institutional, and operational priorities. Interactive sessions involve officers of various ranks. This year’s 16th edition focuses on reforms, transformation, change, and operational preparedness under the theme ‘Year of Reforms – Transforming for the Future’.

“The focus of the conference reflects the armed forces’ commitment to institutional reforms, deeper integration, and technological modernisation, while sustaining a high level of multi-domain operational readiness,” the defence official added. The last edition was held in Bhopal in 2023.

This marks Modi’s fourth visit to Bengal in the past five months and his second in a month. He arrived in Kolkata on Sunday evening from Assam and spent the night at Raj Bhavan. On Monday, he reached Vijay Durg at around 9.30 am, attended the inaugural session for about four hours, and left at 1.30 pm. He then took a chopper from the Calcutta Race Course to NSC Bose International Airport to fly to Purnea in Bihar.
