Pune RTO, which has been long dealing with complaints from citizens against wayward auto drivers, have given commuters a reason to have faith in the system with their new development.
They are in the process of developing a software to be embedded in their existing website www.rtopune.com to keep a close watch on serial offenders and also provide instant feedback to the complainant.
Deputy Regional Transport Officer, Anil Valiv, who has been working on the new system, told mid day, "As of now, there is no way to track repeat offenders. The new software will help to keep a track of this. More than 80 per cent of the work is completed and we will be able to start the service by the end of this month."
In a bid to curb the increasing number of cases against auto rickshaw drivers, the RTO officials are also planning to take strict action against those who have not learnt from their past mistakes.
The Auto Rickshaw Panchayat claims that though the action will be tough, it will help to provide better service to passengers.
Convenor of the Rickshaw Panchayat, Nitin Pawar, said, "We have to ensure that we are providing better services to our commuters. The action by the RTO will help to change the mindset of the badly behaved auto rickshaw drivers as they will think twice before refusing the passengers or behaving rudely with them."
Passengers have welcomed this initiative by the RTO. Naresh Ganu said, "Many citizens have had bad experiences of being refused by auto drivers time and again.
The traffic police or the RTO has not taken any strict action against them. With this tracking system, we will be aware of our complain status which will be useful for passengers."
