The cleanup was in full drive, until some officials realised that it could not be achieved overnight Even as the party chief Nitin Gadkari was all set to inaugurate an underpass in the city, Yeddyurappa called off the event, as the work on it was not yet over. The Naygandanahalli underpass, that will connect to the Mysore road was not supposed to be open for vehicles until January next year. But since the city has no other venues for inauguration, the CM had ordered officials to arrange for a function by today morning. Hundreds of workers had been deployed to clean and spruce up the spot, since last evening yesterday. The cleanup was in full drive, until some officials realised that it could not be achieved overnight, and would take a few more daysu00a0-- the current status of the work is at 70 per cent.u00a0 A source said that the concerned officials then called upon the CM, and explained to him their helplessness in the situation. The Chief Minister finally must have realised that it was unachievable in one night, and called off the drive at 8 pm, the source said. This reporter spoke to some of the workers at the spot. One tent-worker said that they were informed yesterday morning to bring equipment fit for an inauguration ceremony. They were told to drop everything and come prepared. But finally authorities informed them after the day was over that the ceremony would not be held. u00a0 A security person told this reporter, "I was surprised when I heard there was going to be some sort of a ceremony here. But for that, they would have had to permit vehicles in the underpass. There is still some work left to be done here."
