While access to the BKC stretch from the Bandra East Railway station promises to get easier, this is still two years in the pipeline

The bhoomipujan of the BKC pod taxi project happened on Tuesday. The megapolis has moved towards a futuristic transit system that promises faster, more personalised travel within buzzing, business-centric BKC. It is initially to run along Kurla and Bandra East, with eight stations strategically located at Bandra East, Kalanagar, along MMRDA Old Building, Excise Department, Bharat Diamond Bourse Gate 11, MMRDA Pay & Park, LBS Marg and Kurla.
While access to the BKC stretch from the Bandra East Railway station promises to get easier, this is still two years in the pipeline. Currently, authorities must look at the chaos on the Bandra East side of the station with rickshaws charging at will for passengers to get to their workspaces on time. The share a rickshaw rule the roost here. Commuters are literally held to ransom. So it is within BKC, where exorbitant fares are charged within the district with very few exceptions. This gets especially pronounced during peak hours, when getting out of the precinct is very difficult, with commuters desperate to get home. A number of entertainment spaces also see substantial crowds during peak hours, and rickshaws and at times, cabs too, going not by meter but per passenger.
The Metro Aqua Line entry/exit points see rickshaws idling outside, with few going as per meter. Here, commuters exit the Metro and most times have little option but to take the pricey short commute to their destination. While futuristic transport may sound very fancy and aspirational, pay attention to the present pain and pinch in the pocket. Address and rectify this first.
