Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama were photographed vacationing aboard Steven Spielberg’s 250 million dollar superyacht, Seven Seas, off the Italian Riviera.
According to the New York Post, the Obamas were seen joining the 357-foot luxury vessel on separate days, amid ongoing tabloid speculation about their marriage. Michelle Obama arrived Friday afternoon, dressed casually in a denim ensemble, and was greeted warmly by Spielberg himself. She joined guests for dinner on board later that evening.
Barack Obama followed the next night, arriving around 10 p.m. Saturday with a full security detail, including escorts from the Italian intelligence agency DIGOS, bomb-sniffing dogs, and members of the Italian military police (Carabinieri).
The couple was spotted again on Sunday morning, having weathered rough seas overnight aboard the yacht, which was anchored in the scenic harbour of Portofino. They had breakfast on deck before heading to lunch at the seaside village of Punta Chiappa near Camogli.
Photos captured the Obamas in high spirits, laughing, dancing, and enjoying meals with Spielberg and his wife, actress Kate Capshaw. The former president, dressed in a tan windbreaker and white baseball cap, was also seen working on his laptop during the trip.
Their luxurious Mediterranean getaway coincided with a major public memorial for Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA and a close ally of Donald Trump. Kirk was fatally shot on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University. His remembrance ceremony drew a crowd of over 200,000 to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
Rumours about tension in the Obamas’ marriage have circulated in recent months, especially after Michelle’s absence from two major public events earlier this year: Trump’s inauguration and the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter. However, in a July episode of her podcast, IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, the former first lady dismissed the speculation.
“There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I have thought about quitting my man,” she said, the New York Post reported.
Earlier, the former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle had sought to shut down the long-running rumours they’re headed for divorce.
The former first couple jointly addressed the speculation swirling around their three-decade marriage for the first time, joking on the latest episode of the ex-first lady’s podcast that it was “touch and go for a while.”
As reported by the New York Post, Michelle Obama, 61, welcomed her husband onto her podcast by saying, “He made time in his busy schedule to come on. We’re honoured.” Her brother and co-host, Craig Robinson, couldn’t resist teasing the couple, chiming in with a playful jab: “Wait, you guys like each other?”
