Nepal’s first modern road tunnel, the Nagdhunga passage, connecting Kathmandu to other districts, was opened to the public on Monday, allowing small private vehicles to use the tunnel road on a trial basis.

Vehicles carrying up to nine passengers have been allowed to use the tunnel, which was previously limited to emergency services only. Inaugurated on July 27, the 2.688-km tunnel road was built with financial and technical assistance from Japan.
