New Zealand batter Finn Allen believes India’s prolific top order, comprising Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, will pose plenty of challenges to the Kiwis during the upcoming five-match ODI series, starting in Auckland on November 4. India skipper Gill leads the 2026 run-scoring charts in ODIs with 895 runs in 12 matches, while Rohit has scored 604 runs in 12 matches, and Kohli has returned 552 runs from just nine outings.

The top three have been at the forefront of many of India’s wins in 2026, and Allen, 27, who is returning to ODIs after a gap of three years, stressed that they will be a huge threat.
“They pose a lot of challenges. Between the three of them there is a lot of cricket and a lot of experience. [They’re] guys that have got their methods figured out pretty well. So, I think their ability to absorb pressure and counteract when they need to and knowing that they have done it so many times is something that creates consistency. And guys that score consistently runs are always going to be a threat. All three of them have the ability to go into sixth gear when they need to,” the explosive batter said during a virtual media interaction organised by Sony Sports Network on Saturday.
However, Allen, who scored 134 runs in the recently-concluded five-match T20I series which India won 3-2, also remained confident in their bowling attack with the seaming conditions on offer in Kiwiland. “On the flip side we would pose a lot of challenges with our bowlers, especially in our home conditions. The bowlers will be having a lot of conversations about them and watching a lot of footage so that they can come up with a plan and probably use the New Zealand conditions as best they can. So I’m looking forward to seeing an exciting battle,” he signed off.
