While currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 are nearly extinct, Ratilal Parmar, a resident of Morbi (Gujarat) is holding on to his few old notes for cricketing reasons.
Parmar, a collector of Indian currency notes with specific numbers resembling the date of birth of cricketers, politicians and other celebrities, is witnessing the fourth cricket Test between India and England at the Wankhede Stadium. He believes in sharing his rare collectibles too.
Having presented England captain Alastair Cook with a note that denotes the England skipper&rsquo;s birth date, he is waiting to gift notes to other members of Cook&rsquo;s and Virat Kohli&rsquo;s team.

Shock and awe &ldquo;When I gifted Cook the Rs 10 note, having the number of his date of birth, he was shocked. He was amazed that one could collect such a note,&rdquo; Parmar told mid-day yesterday.
Obviously, it&rsquo;s terribly hard, but his passion helps him overcome all obstacles. His passion comes shining through as he shows you his album with pictures of himself with Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Ricky Ponting, all of whom have been gifted notes. Parmar has also gifted specific notes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan.
His meeting with Tendulkar during the 2008 India versus South Africa Test at Ahmedabad stands out among his several great moments. &ldquo;My younger son and I went to handover a collection of notes to Sachin. He too was surprised as to how I could manage to get hold of a note which reflected his date of birth. He enquired about my elder son and spoke to him over the phone. He told my son that someone will broke his batting records, but no one in the world would break my records,&rdquo; revealed the 61-year-old Parmar.
Passion heals cancer In 2013, Parmar was diagnosed with stomach cancer, but his passion of collecting special notes helped him overcome the dreaded disease.
&ldquo;Collecting notes gives me immense satisfaction. I am just a matriculate who owns a small workshop, but my hobby has played a leading hand in overcoming all my obstacles. Yes, it&rsquo;s not easy exchanging or collecting these notes. Sometimes, I have to pay more for special notes, but then, this is my passion. I have notes with the birth date of many famous people. &nbsp;You come up with a name and I will show you the relevant note.&rdquo;
This is no boast, only a manifestation of his proficiency.
