India's women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur wants to replicate what former India skippers Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni’s teams achieved by winning the World Cup in 1983 and 2011 respectively. The Mithali Raj-led Indian women’s team came very close to winning the title in 2017 in England. Despite Mumbai opener Punam Raut’s 86 and Harmanpreet’s 51, India fell nine runs short against Heather Knight-led England to lose the ODI World Cup final at Lord’s in July 2017. Now, Harmanpreet wants her teammates to break that final barrier and win their maiden World Cup to be played in India and Sri Lanka, starting September 30.
“Playing in front of our home crowd is always special, and this time I hope we will give our 100 per cent and try to break that final barrier that we have all been waiting for. [The confidence is] very high. The kind of cricket we’ve played over the last couple of years gives us a lot of confidence,” Harmanpreet said at an event to announce the 50-day countdown at a city hotel on Monday.

India’s vice-captain and opener Smriti Mandhana, who scored her 14th international and maiden T20I century while smashing 112 against England at Nottingham last June, said: “The mindset has changed over the last two, three years. There’s a calmness with which I want to go about, while on the field. Our whole team is heading in that direction.”
Mumbai-based batter Jemimah Rodrigues, who was also at the event, added: “A lot has changed with my preparation and mindset. I have a lot of confidence coming from my preparation and that gives me clarity.”
