French tennis star Gael Monfils reportedly put a stop to his 22-year long professional career as he has been “struggling to cope” with the sudden end of his marriage with women’s tennis ace Elina Svitolina.

Svitolina, 32, announced their divorce via an Instagram post recently. According to French newspaper L’Equipe when Monfils learned of the news “it hit him like a ton of bricks, and tennis, which he had often experienced as a kind of gentle madness, suddenly lost all meaning.”
