As the inaugural World Yogasana C’ship kicks off at the Eka Arena in Ahmedabad today, bringing in elite Yogasana athletes from over 60 nations, Udit Sheth, President of Yogasana Bharat, India’s national federation for yogasana, is looking to “smoothly transition the discipline from a cultural practice to a competitive sport before its debut as an indigenous sport at the 2030 Commonwealth Games” in the same city. “The sport has 40 federations across Africa, the Americas, Oceania, Asia, and Europe, and is targeting 90 countries by year-end. Yogasana could appear as a demo event at the Asian Indoor Games [Dec 13 to 21 in Riyadh] this year,” Sheth told mid-day.
