Spice it up, Bandra style The Queen of the Suburbs never gets too old for some festive cheer and here is one more reason to head there. Scheduled for the Diwali holidays, Bandra&rsquo;s Got Spice festival kick-started yesterday and will continue for a week with some interesting events lined up in association with mid-day. The festival hopes to get onboard old-timers and the cool, young gen together, so there&rsquo;s something for everyone &mdash; whether as an individual or in teams. There&rsquo;s Rasta Rhymes (street dance), teen patti (not gambling, but a triathlon of skating, scooter rides and cycling), and even a treasure hunt on bicycles, called Bandora&rsquo;s Box. Or you might be game for What Men Why Men, in which your knowledge of Bandra-talk will be put to test. Bandra Got Spice started off as a Facebook group a couple of years ago and celebrated the suburb with its 6,800 members. With the tremendous response the group got, they decided to take it offline. This is the first edition of the festival. It will also see the launch of Mesmerizing Memories, a coffee-table book celebrating Bandra&rsquo;s luminaries. Attend a photo exhibition titled; &lsquo;Shadows of an Empire &mdash; The Vijayanagar Story that will give you a glimpse into the Vijaynagar Empire, one of tFhe last indigenous dynasties of India. The exhibition is accompanied with the publication of an illustrated 100-page coffee-table book of the same title. It contains images of the ruins in Hampi, interesting anecdotes&nbsp; and historical tidbits.Once a formidable Hindu kingdom, the empire covered Andhra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and parts of Kerala in southern India, including territories of Mysore, Trichinopally, Kanara, Pondicherry, Chingalpet and Kanchivaram. Today it lies in ruins and the remnants of a once-flourishing empire can be found in the Bellary District of northern Karnataka. Vijaynagar has seen travellers like Abdul Razzak and Domingo Paes who left for us a fine account of what they saw. Paes calls it &ldquo;the most provided city in the world&rsquo;&rsquo;.
