Beyond messaging: WhatsApp deepens its payments play in India

Users can pay bills on WhatsApp using any UPI app, debit card or credit card, without needing to use WhatsApp Pay

WhatsApp has introduced its Bill Payments feature in India. Pic: WhatsApp

WhatsApp has launched Bill Payments in India, allowing users to find, manage and pay utility bills directly on the messaging app without switching between multiple platforms.

The feature runs directly on Bharat Connect, the national bill payments network formerly known as BBPS, which was conceptualised by the Reserve Bank of India and is operated by NPCI Bharat BillPay Limited, a subsidiary of the National Payments Corporation of India.
