The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple weather alerts across Maharashtra over the next few days, warning of hot and humid conditions in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and thunderstorm activity in several parts of Vidarbha and interior Maharashtra.

According to the latest forecast issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai on Friday afternoon, Mumbai, Thane and Palghar have been placed under a yellow alert from May 8 to May 10 due to persistent hot and humid weather conditions. Similar weather conditions are also expected in Raigad and Ratnagiri districts during the same period.

Hot and Humid Spell Likely in Mumbai Metropolitan Region

The IMD said isolated pockets in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar are likely to experience uncomfortable weather marked by high humidity levels and above-normal daytime temperatures for the next three days. The department has categorised the probability of such conditions as "very likely."

Raigad and Ratnagiri are also expected to witness hot and humid conditions, although light rain or thundershowers may occur in some areas during afternoon or evening hours on May 8 and May 9. Sindhudurg district may also receive light rain and thundershowers during the same period.

Weather officials said residents in coastal districts may continue to experience discomfort due to high moisture content in the atmosphere, particularly during afternoon hours.

Orange Alert Issued for Parts of Vidarbha

Several districts in Vidarbha have been placed under an orange alert due to the likelihood of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph. The warning is in effect for districts including Amravati, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Washim and Yavatmal on May 8 and May 9.

Akola is also expected to witness thunderstorm activity along with gusty winds of up to 50 kmph between May 8 and May 10. Similar thunderstorm warnings have been issued for Nagpur, Gondia, Wardha, Bhandara and Gadchiroli.

Districts such as Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli and Solapur are likely to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph in isolated places over the next two days.

Pune, Ahilyanagar, Nashik and surrounding ghat regions may also witness light to moderate rain and thundershowers. Marathwada districts including Nanded, Latur and Dharashiv are expected to experience thunderstorms and gusty winds until May 9.
