Lyricist Swanand Kirkire on penning eight of nine tracks for Bachchan-starrer Goodbye

Family’s tale on love and longing

Swanand Kirkire

Lyricist Swanand Kirkire admits that his work for Vikas Bahl’s Goodbye is elaborate. Kirkire, who has penned eight of the nine songs in the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer, describes the movie as a “warm family film about love and longing, and understanding one’s roots and traditions.”

“There are two love songs, one is placed when [the characters] remember the mother, who is no more, and another is the father’s love song. There is also a Mahakal ki aarti, which is about life and death,” says the lyricist, adding that he jetted off to Goa to create the soundtrack in the company of musician Amit Trivedi. “Working with Amit is always special because the process is an organic one. Amit creates beautiful tunes and simplifies the process. He is rooted, and that reflects in his music.”
